High Rigg Woodland Cottage Reviews

The cottage its self was beautiful, well Equipped and well presented, even down to the Christmas decorations which were also a really lovely touch. The surrounding area and views were also amazing, there is nothing I could fault. The hosts were so kind and welcoming, there on hand had we needed anything, but never bothered you otherwise. We had the best weekend staying here, would love to return in the near future.
Woodland Cottage was perfect! Owners close by but not intrusive. Accommodation was extremely clean and the interior decoration was like something out of a lifestyle book amazing but very comfortable. Perfectly located for walking and shopping with good places to eat close by. Had a wonderful week and will book again.
Absolutely fantastic accomodation stunning attention to detail everything clean ... Absolutely fantastic accomodation stunning attention to detail everything clean and tidy would definitely stop there again

This was a luxury stay on a budget. In comparison to other cabins lodges this was picked because of it's location. I and my friends were pleasantly surprised. We had spacious rooms, a BBQ and plenty of privacy from neighbours and each other with the 2 bathrooms and two rooms where you couldn't hear each other. Waking up to Green Lush Grass, walking down towards the pond, leaving the French double doors open, sitting in doors with the log fire on,Having high quality kitchen ovens and plenty of utensils, plates and glasses, then being able to just chuck them in a dish washer, without thinking. We were there to enjoy a relaxing Hen staycation, Iwasnt even expecting the hotel slippers , bathrobes and towels. As other more expensive lodges or lodge styles didnt provide this. The Bride to be felt it was Lush. The host checked in on us and we played music until really late with the French doors open and no one complained. We also asked for some clingfilm and zip lock bags and without hesitation they brought us some over. Everyone that came along for the Hen stay cation, are planning on bringing their families back. It is prettier than the pictures. We were blessed with good weather, but honestly a rainy day would be so Cosy. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this place in Mid August at such a reasonable price. There is a pub a short walk and Carisle town centre and Tesco are about 30 mins or 25 mins by car. If you're looking for some quiet time away. Id recommend this place. We didn't even bother with the hot tub, as we just enjoyed vibing away , cooking & eating good.
A fabulous cottage in a fabulous setting run by fabulous people

Could do with new mattresses. Both beds caused us to have back pain. Lighting in kitchen area could do with being on dimmers.
Christine
Fabulous relaxing week in a very peaceful & scenic location. Cottage had everything we needed & owners on hand if required. If you want to eat in the local pub make sure you book a table early. Hope to return one day.
Christopher
Woodland cottage was amazing. Fantastic decor and facilities. The hot tub, after a long day walking was so welcoming. The owners said hello when we got there, but never overpowered you. You always knew that if you needed anything they would be there for you. Great location for a walking holiday, but near enough to Carlisle and Penrith if you fancy a drive out. The local pub is well worth a visit. Good food and friendly staff.

An absolutely outstanding property, we couldn't recommend this place highly enough, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and cannot wait to return, exceptionally clean throughout and the outside decked area an added bonus, unfortunately we didn't make use of the inviting hot tub only reason being the wind was a bit chilly, the owners very friendly but not at all intrusive, all in all a very enjoyable relaxing stay, thankyou once again Leanne and Carol.
Best place ever did not want to leave!

What a great and beautiful home. Beautiful surroundings quiet and peaceful. Absolutely nothing to complain about. David and Brenda the owners were very helpful. Yes, we will be back. We left a container of rice in one of the kitchen drawers that we forgot. Please let the owners know, use it. Roland De Silva

Fabulous accommodation . Only minor criticism would have been , a few more instructions for the hot tub , and maybe a few more local instructions like pubs , taxis etc . But a fantastic place , the photos dont give it justice , amazing views and beautiful location .
Amanda
Wonderfully peaceful, cosy and relaxing stay over Christmas. Cottage is immaculate, tasteful and was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Rural setting is stunning. Everything we could have hoped for spending time with family.
Gorgeous cottage in a beautiful setting. We were there early December, saw gorgeous dark skies Very comfortable living, dining and kitchen area with fab log burner most useful for the winter evenings, Kitchen well fitted & equipped. 2 lovely double bedrooms both en suite. Lovely hot tub in covered over space. Pub 10 minute walk its along a quiet road with no actual path to it so we didnt attempt to walk it in the dark. Recommendation better pillows & quality bedding would make this place extra special. All in all lovely stay.

This was our 3rd stay now at High Rigg so I guess that should tell you everything you need to know about this gem of a place. Such a peaceful relaxing place guaranteed to recharge your batteries if thats what you are looking for. The whole ambience of the cottage is super cosy and welcoming with its choice of furnishings and log burner .added bonus is the hot tub being undercover allowing for use even in the pouring rain. Brenda and her family have thought of everything to make your stay just perfect with bubbles in the fridge , a well stocked hospitality tray and a huge supply of logs and coal too. Simply relax and enjoy! We will be back again soonthank you x
What a hidden gem! We booked this cottage a little last minute as we wanted somewhere quiet with plenty of opportunities to get to interesting places nearby. The hot tub and fabulous pub String of Horses Inn 10 minutes walk away were a bonus! What a lovely spot and so well furnished. Everything you need is provided and the cottage was so comfortable. We loved the log burner. We had days out at Carlisle, Dumfries, Keswick and Talkin Tarn. The Farm Shop and Garden Centre at Houghton Hall was great. We were very lucky to get a great week weather wise too. We will be returning to this cottage soon. Thanks for a lovely stay!
Lovely warm and cosey property with loads of character. The host and family were very friendly. Lovely location and a great base for touring The Lakes, The Borders, NE and NW Coast. Great dark skies the stars really shine bright and we also enjoyed seeing the Northern Lights. Surrounded by beautiful countryside . A really relaxing time. The hot tub was a real bonus.
Christopher
Great couple of days away in this little cottage. The facilities are first class, literally everything you need. The hot tub was fantastic and the views are to die for. The owner was very helpful and even left a bottle of fizz in the fridge for us!! A short drive from Carlisle too so it's far enough away to feel like you have a slice of the countryside but close enough to grab supplies. Would 100 like to return soon.
Really lovely cottage, well equipped. Fabulous views and so peaceful. Hot tub a real bonus Lovely area locally can recommend the pub in Faugh!
Beautiful cottage and lush viewssurrounding area. Everything you need for a perfect relaxing trip. The cottage itself is stunning with the added bonus of a hot tub. Highly recommend!

Really enjoyed our stay, beds where really great, annexechalet really comfortable and hot tub a great treat. Owners and their house keeper really friendly and helpful. Everything was just great thanks.
Excellent property with a very high standard of furnishings and in an absolutely gorgeous setting. Everything we required 4 adults for our stay. The dressing gowns and slippers were a nice touch and the hot tub was well used. Very peaceful location.
We had an amazing time at High Rigg, the cottage was fantastic and so well equipped. The views topped it off and so close to Keswick and Scotland. And the hot tub was the best thing at the end of the day or on rainy days. We will definitely be returning in the future as we didn't want to leave.Thank you so much Claire and Dave!
Such a stunning property provided by very welcoming yet unobtrusive owners. Would highly recommend.
Kirsten
The property was perfect as a base for sight seeing to Hadrian's Wall and other places. But it was also fabulous for some cosy, rainy days inside in front of the fire. Traveling with my sister, we also prepared some meals in the awesome kitchen. The cottage is so roomy and beautifully decorated. The cottage really is stunning! Love that each double bedroom has an ensuite and tv. So you can get some quiet time too. And my first time with a hot tub! Loved it!! It is clear that cleanliness is a priority which suits me! We really loved our stay and I hope to return with my husband and parents.
Cannot fault anything about the cottage. Everything is there to have a nice relaxing break in lovely surroundings. Brenda & Dave are perfect hosts, nothing is any trouble if you need to ask anything.
Frances
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at High Rigg Woodland Cottage. The cottage was immaculately presented and the accommodation is well laid out. We particularly liked the open plan living area. The cottage has everything you need and Brenda and David are on hand should anything arise. The cottage is in a peaceful location overlooking well kept gardens and a lovely pond. The 5 star rating is spot on and reflects what Woodland Cottage has to offer. The cottage is well situated to explore what Cumbria has to offer and the Lakes Ullswater are only about an hour away with Windermere only a little further on. We would definitely return to Woodland Cottage. Thanks again Brenda and David.
Vickie
We had booked for 2 nights with friends and had such a lovely drive up to Brampton and couldn't believe how beautiful the grounds were when we arrived. The sun was shining and we enjoyed drinks on the decking overlooking the glorious countryside in the sunshine. We had booked Woodland cottage and could not fault a thing. The owners greeted us and were so friendly and advised they lived on site and just to give them a shout if we needed anything. The pictures of the cottage online didn't do accommodation justice, it was absolutely beautiful. The bedrooms were so lovely and spacious with separate doors out on to the terrace which lead to a private hot tub. The views were stunning and we had the most relaxing time. We didn't want to leave. Amazing hosts, location and facilities and we can't wait to return.
We had a wonderful week at High Rigg, the hosts were very friendly but never intrusive. It's a perfect base to explore in every direction. The hot tub was a god send after walking a chunk of Hadrian's Wall. The cottage is a cosy, comfortable home from home, with everything you need to have a lovely break away. We will be rebooking.
Christopher
Everything was just as advertised we couldn't fault our stay here. We will definitely be returning In the future
Anne-marie
Every thing was absolutely fabulous. The cottage and facilities were absolutely amazing. The setting was beautiful and the owners were helpful and very kind.
A very well appointed cottage. Clean and comfortable. The Christmas decorations were exceptional and a joy to arrive to. Could have done with tongs for the log burner which was essential given the time of year. I felt the heating was struggling to cope with open plan area with high ceilings. Plenty of outdoor seating and decking to enjoy the grounds and views. The location is a little isolated but well placed to explore the surrounding area and tourist spots.
This was our second Christmas visit to High Rigg having stayed last year in Garden Cottage. If anything we enjoyed this year even more, the cottage was decorated so beautifully. Brenda excels in staging the accommodation for Christmas and even the little shepherd huts get the festive look too. She really does make such an effort to make it feel so cosy and Christmassy and there was some bubbly and Christmas cake to welcome us. Hot tub was used every single evening thanks to it being undercover this time in the Woodland Cottage. Coming back in from the cold to a blazing log fire was just heaven. We had nice meals in both The Queens, Warwick on Eden and Howard Arms in Brampton so would recommend those. The views from both cottages are simply gorgeous, had a beautiful sunrise over the hills on Christmas morning too. Can genuinely say we will be going for the hat trick and booking up for next Christmas again
Amanda
Lovely holiday in a wonderful cottage. Quiet location, but still only a short drive to some great pubs serving delicious food. The Lake District, Hadrian's Wall and Yorkshire all within an hour makes it an ideal location. Or relax in the grounds or hot tub. We hope to return.
Hayley
We had a wonderful stay at high Riggs. The property is so beautifully decorated and we really enjoyed the quality of the place. Our only criticism was the ropey WiFi which is a kind of must must with a 4 year old and a 2 year old. We loved the hottub and will be back again for sure !
